Calling All LiDAR Developers: RoboSense Joins NVIDIA Omniverse Ecosystem to Improve Sensor Simulations

By Alex Passett July 13, 2023

Shenzhen, China-headquartered RoboSense is a provider of smart LiDAR systems. Its complete portfolio of LiDAR (Light, or Laser, Detection and Ranging) solutions includes state-of-the-art sensors, AI perception technology and IC chipsets, to name a few. At its core, RoboSense transforms conventional 3D LiDAR with comprehensive data analysis and interpretation systems, and its experts hail from top global companies and various scientific research institutions; this explains how RoboSense owned (at the end of 2022) more than 1,000 patents in total. Whether it’s smart LiDAR perception system solutions (which include MEMS LiDAR and mechanical LiDAR), fusion hardware and perception software, what RoboSense produces has been widely applied to IoT mobility solutions, including in autonomous driving passenger vehicles, automated logistics vehicles, in robots (e.g. also robotaxi, robobus and robotruck technologies) and for transportation infrastructure at large.

Long story short? RoboSense has made – and will surely continue to make – big waves in IoT, especially LiDAR-centric ones, and even bigger names have taken notice.

Names, for instance, like NVIDIA.

That’s why, in late Q2 of this year, RoboSense put together an announcement. To better accelerate the sensor development, testing and validation, RoboSense announced that it is now officially connected to the NVIDA Omniverse ecosystem.

Here’s the lowdown:

RoboSense’s second-generation smart solid-state LiDAR model is now integrated into NVIDIA DRIVE Sim (which is built on Omniverse). This enables physically based, high-fidelity sensor simulation so autonomous vehicle developers can directly access new, top-of-the-line LiDAR for their needs.

For additional context, NVIDIA DRIVE Sim is a reference application that delivers digital twin environments for autonomous driving systems. With DRIVE Sim, safely repeatable testing scenarios at scale can be performed, fast-tracking development and reducing undue long-term costs.

And for the very LiDAR-inclined folks, RoboSense’s M-Series LiDAR has, by far, the most designated partnerships worldwide, having been implemented in the following vehicle models:

  • GAC Aion LX Plus,
  • GAC Aion Hyper GT
  • SAIC IM LS7, SAIC IM L7
  • Lotus Eletre
  • XPeng G9
  • XPeng P7i
  • Great Wall WEY Mocha DHT-PHEV
  • Great Wall Motor WEY DHT-PHEV
  • Chery Exeed STERRA ES, STERRA ET

Per Mark Qiu, co-founder and RoboSense’s Executive President:

“The global automotive industry is undergoing a massive transformation, with ADAS and LiDAR markets continuing to gain traction. Leveraging the NVIDIA Omniverse ecosystem, RoboSense’s LiDAR technology and industry experience will be applied to a wider field, providing stronger support for the development and verification of next-gen autonomous vehicles. This will achieve more efficient, safer and smarter driving applications.”

And per Zvi Greenstein, a general manager at NVIDIA:

“NVIDIA Omniverse is an open platform that includes leading LiDAR models from top manufacturers worldwide. RoboSense's outstanding technical strength and customer base help strengthen our ecosystem and will surely accelerate the development and validation of autonomous vehicles while bringing more flexibility to developers.”
