Huawei Supports Big Data and Internet of Things with New Server

By Clayton Hamshar May 12, 2015

Huawei and SAP are continuing to strengthen their relationship with the former company’s recent launch of its Appliance for Large Database in support of the SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA). The appliance is based on Huawei’s FusionServer RH8100, a mission-critical server offering enterprise management and cloud services.

SAP S/4HANA is a next generation business suite built on the company’s advanced in-memory platform, SAP HANA. The solution helps enterprises simplify their IT landscape and software deployments while developing new business models that incorporate the Internet of Things and Big Data. SAP Fiori can be used to personalize the already simple and responsive user experience for a boost in usability and therefore more beneficial outcomes.

Enterprise customers that choose to invest in Huwaei’s new offering — which was built specifically for SAP S/4HANA — will benefit from its robust performance capabilities and unprecedented reliability. The RH8100 is designed for hardware accelerating log volumes of SAP HANA and operates with lower latency and higher Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) when compared to existing technologies such as Peripheral Component Interconnect Express-based (PCLe) Solid State Drives (SSDs). The server also offers as many as 60 Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) features including online memory migration, memory module hot-swapping and a redundant system design.

In support of long-term stable operations, the RH8100 runs at a mere 104°F. Its flexible specifications can be customized to best meet the needs of individual organizations, including capacity for up to 12 TB of memory and as many as 16 PCIe slots. A partition capability lets the server be split into two 4-socket servers in order to drastically improve efficiency in situations where the full processing power would be gratuitous. Furthermore, a simplified construction ensures easy deployment and maintenance, leading to an overall reduced total cost of ownership (TCO).

“Information and communications technology (ICT) has changed the traditional enterprise resource planning (ERP) concept,” said Qiu Long, General Manager of IT Server Product Domain at Huawei. “To help enterprises reshape and simplify their on-demand process and real-time operations, we need to restructure IT infrastructure for accelerating the Internet of Things and big data applications. With our long history of delivering innovative ICT products, complemented by our work with SAP in support of its enterprise business software, we believe the FusionServer RH8100 for SAP S/4HANA will create a highly efficient IT infrastructure and hybrid cloud service, and will greatly promote enterprise operation and management efficiencies for customers.”

Companies using the Huawei FusionServer RH8100 can perform accurate business analysis for their operations in real-time while constructing flexible enterprise cloud services using SAP S/4HANA. This represents both companies’ recent focus on enterprise management and cloud services and solutions. The RH8100 for SAP S/4HANA is now available.
