IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Hitachi, Mistubishi, Intel

By

Hello, friends. This is the IoT Evolution World Week in Review, and we’re right on the edge of yet another amazing IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas, next week, July 11 to 14, so the “controlled chaos” is the word of the day. If you want to get in on it as a sponsor or exhibitor, now’s the time, so hook up with Matt Gleeson, our Biz Dev maestro.

In our lead story this week, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric and Intel teamed up to propose an IoT Manufacturing Testbed to test open IoT platforms that integrate Factory Automation in manufacturing and IT. The findings will be incorporated into Hitachi’s Lumada IoT Platform in order to help users create new solutions.

And now, the news:
We had an insightful review of the Mistbox central air conditioner monitoring tool from our own Stefania Viscusi, in which she talks about how electricity rates have been soaring and fees and taxes seem to be increasing constantly. If you can cut down some of the power used to run these systems – then the MistBox is doing its job.

In the Netherlands, for the first time, an entire country has deployed an IoT network. The KPN LoRa network has been established over the past eight months and it is now available outdoors throughout the Netherlands.

Cities around the world have begun to move forward with implementing smart city initiatives. However, while most understand why urban transformation is necessary, a big challenge plaguing many city’s digital innovation is the struggle to define what it actually means to be ‘smart’ and how to ultimately get there. To help with this, global trade association TM Forum recently launched a comprehensive, end-to-end Smart City Maturity and Benchmark Model, designed to capture what it really means to be a smart city.

This week on the IoT Time Podcast, I sit down with Homaira Akbari, founder of Aknowledge Partners, to talk about what the c-suite and the boardroom need to consider as they make IoT strategy. This episode is sponsored by the IoT Evolution Expo, where Akbari will speak on these topics next week.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas in your calendar. Also, please get in touch with us when you have stories. As always, if you have questions, comments, input or abuse, please send it to editorial director Ken Briodagh at [email protected] or on Twitter @KenBriodagh
