New Low-Cost Mioty Gateway Solves for Flexibility and Ease of IoT Deployment

By

As the Internet of Things (IoT) gradually becomes more integrated throughout various industry sectors, the development of IoT networks that allow for communication between interconnected IoT devices has grown. However, inevitable complexities derived from this have made it difficult for companies to adopt and deploy these expansive and up-to-date networks. Companies seeking to utilize new IoT networking may find difficulties:

  • With implementation, configuration, and management of devices as well as interoperability; creating challenges for future scalability
  • Integrating with existing systems requiring a costly infrastructure overhaul
  • The incorrect implementation may limit constant embedded security measures putting clients at risk

“Failing to select the right wireless connectivity could derail your IoT deployment from the outset,” says Wolfgang Thieme, CTO at BehrTech. “The right solution must balance reliability, scalability, and cost to safeguard the long-term viability of your connected system.”

In response to this, BehrTech, an Ontario, Canada-based disruptive enabler of next-gen wireless IoT connectivity, together with the German company, WEPTECH, a leader in the engineering and manufacturing of innovative technologies and systems for wireless communication, have released the first low-cost MYTHINGS certified gateway (AVA) for mioty® low-power wide-area networks. Mioty is a next-gen LPWAN protocol that provides efficient, reliable, and scalable wireless connectivity for large commercial and industrial IoT deployments.

The AVA gateway is easy to deploy and provides flexible IoT connectivity, as a bidirectional IoT gateway integrated with the ETSI-standardized mioty wireless stack. It includes pre-configured MYTHINGS Central software by BehrTech, an inclusive device management platform designed to manage large-scale mioty LPWA networks. With one-click registration, MYTHINGS features a highly scalable cloud service that specializes in providing a fast, simple, and cost-effective means of deploying successful mioty networks.

Recognizing the need for integrative wireless IoT connectivity, Thieme states, “Between legacy proprietary solutions and costly third-party managed networks, there is strong demand for inexpensive, easy-to-deploy and highly flexible IoT connectivity solutions,” he continued. “Together with WEPTECH, we’re making this powerful new LPWAN technology more accessible, interoperable and consumable for companies worldwide.”

“We are happy that we could win BehrTech as a partner on the platform side at this early stage,” said Wolfgang Esch, Head of Sales and Marketing at WEPTECH. “With this collaboration, we are able to give the customer even easier and faster access to this game-changing technology.”

Available through WEPTECH as an evaluation kit, the AVA gateway serves to simplify both the adoption of mioty as well as the reliability, range, and scalability of mioty LPWA networks. The gateway provides support for 868 MHz (Europe) and 915 MHz (North America) frequency bands and can be connected to the local network with an Ethernet connection.

Retrofittable in any environment, the MYTHINGS platform enables fully integrated IIoT solutions for data-driven decision-making while featuring a highly flexible Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) interface, cloud connectors for Azure, AWS, and Cumulocity, and its plugin architecture. Customers can also easily integrate with the external systems, third-party applications, and IoT platforms of their choice.

“When building a future-proof wireless IoT architecture, it’s important to consider not only existing requirements but also those that might pop up down the road,” says Thieme. “A solution that offers data ownership, minimal infrastructure requirements, built-in network management, and integration and interoperability will ensure cost-effective support for the influx of data and devices in the future.”
