Kajeet, Virginia School Boards Association Announce 2022 Virginia Education Broadband Grant Winners

Kajeet and the Virginia School Boards Association announced the nine 2022 Virginia Education Broadband Grant winners that will receive up to $30,000 each to support their digital equity initiatives through a combination of Kajeet Education Broadband solutions.

Kajeet Education Broadband solutions will give students more access to educational resources through Kajeet’s Education Broadband solution, including Kajeet SmartSpot Wi-Fi hotspots; Kajeet SmartBus bus Wi-Fi; LTE-embedded Chromebooks; and routers. Kajeet solutions include firewall protection and Children’s Internet Protection Act-compliant filters to ensure devices are secure.

The division winners are Goochland County Public Schools, Southside; Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools, Tidewater; Essex County Public Schools, Eastern;  Fredericksburg City Public Schools, Northeastern; Nelson County Public Schools, Central; Lunenburg County Public Schools, Southern; Botetourt County Public Schools, Blue Ridge; Tazewell County Public Schools, Southwest; and Harrisonburg City Public Schools, Valley.

“We are thrilled for the Kajeet 2022 Virginia Education Broadband Grant winners and congratulate all the applicants looking to increase education-focused connectivity for their students,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and founder of Kajeet.

Harrisonburg City Public Schools is planning to use their grant to include all of Kajeet’s Education Broadband solutions

“Roughly 60% of the households in the city of Harrisonburg with school-age children do not have broadband internet access at home,” said Toni Sheets, Harrisonburg City Public Schools executive director of technology. “This grant will allow us to focus on our goal of equitable access for all HCPS students.”

VSBA commemorated its 115-year anniversary in 2021 and partnered with Kajeet to create a fund that would aid Commonwealth school divisions connect students to reliable internet outside of the classroom. Kajeet awarded $270,000 in broadband services to Virginia school boards to solve the digital divide.

“VSBA is thrilled to partner with Kajeet to help local divisions around the state improve on their broadband initiatives,” said Gina Patterson, VSBA executive director.

Kajeet is exhibiting at IoT Evolution Expo in Ft. Kajeet will be in Booth #835 in the exhibit hall.
