Streamlined IoT Device Management from Laird Connectivity

By

The multi-part mission of Laird Connectivity is simple: With market-renowned RF modules, system-on-modules (SOMs), internal antennas, IoT devices and a sweep of custom solutions, Laird simplifies wireless connectivity via its product development services that reduce risks and make new time-to-market improvements possible. Via customization options that enable customer-specific IoT applications, Laird impacts industrial, medical, commercial and cold chain monitoring markets in need of custom-made products, specific software features and more.

The “custom” focus really is evident here; for good reason, in Laird’s case.

Laird announced, as it was quoted, “a major leap forward for the effective, customized management of IoT devices.”

How?

The Canvas Device Manager.

Already supported on multiple IoT device products, Laird’s Canvas Device Manager:

  • Dramatically streamlines the process of configuring and managing IoT products in the field (and throughout various products’ full lifecycles).
  • Provides instant wireless access to entire fleets via Bluetooth LE gateways.
  • Brings extensive automation to IoT device management and deployments by making wireless/OTA configuration and maintenance workflows much easier.

And why else is this coverage important for the Internet of Things?

Simple.

See, an oft-infuriating task for organizations involves having to constantly manage ever-growing numbers (and sub-varieties) of IoT devices that prove to be invaluable to operations. Properly managing existing IoT devices (and provisioning the newest and next-best ones) requires labor that can frustrate teams, keeping them from higher-priority projects. According to Senthooran Ragavan, Laird’s Senior Product Manager, this can result in devices that don’t perform as intended, and/or aren’t as secure as they absolutely should be.

“Canvas Device Manager is a game-changer for businesses looking to streamline their device management processes,” Ragavan said. “We understand the challenges faced when managing a large number of unique devices, and we've developed this platform with our partner EdgeIQ to simplify the process and save valuable time and resources.”

EdgeIQ, a DeviceOps platform for managing devices and data, updating software, and the orchestration of cloud integrations and powerful edge-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud workflows, appears to be a great fit for what Laird is determined to succeed in.

Canvas Device Manager features also include:

  • Fleet management of profiles, versions, and up-to-date statuses of all connected devices.
  • Zero-touch configuration and provisioning to quickly deploy complex wireless systems.
  • Remote monitoring of wellness reports against supported Laird Connectivity gateways and sensors.
  • Software updates sent to a fleet of Laird Connectivity IoT devices with any software or firmware at the edge.

So for businesses looking for secure, compliant devices with reduced TCO, the remote management of said devices’ parameters and performance (and end-to-end solutions for today’s enterprise customers), there’s a real path to scalability with the Canvas Device Manager.
