Semtech-UnaBiz Collab Enables Sigfox 0G Technology on LoRa Platforms

By

“Delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that enable a smarter, deeply connected, and more sustainable planet.”

That’s the mission of Semtech Corporation. The objective is to devise technology for a better world, and Semtech has worked towards this since its founding back in 1960. In present day, Semtech’s offerings include cellular IoT solutions, power management, wireless RF, smart sensing, circuit protection, signal integrity, broadcast video and professional AV.

Part and parcel with a mission like Semtech’s is that of UnaBiz, a global massive IoT integrator and service provider. UnaBiz specializes in product design, manufacturing, and data platform services across a hybridity of LPWA (Low-Power Wide Area) tech to power real business growth.

Today, that “part and parcel” aspect of the two providers becomes amplified; Semtech and UnaBiz have entered into a new collaboration with the goal of enabling Sigfox 0G technology on Semtech’s LoRa Edge and the next-gen LoRa Connect platforms.

The long story short? This Semtech-UnaBiz collab will enable customers to, according to a press release, “develop profound solutions that combine LoRaWAN and Sigfox 0G technologies, providing global coverage for IoT use cases (such as asset management) through ultra-low power geolocation in supply chain and logistics industries.”

Together, Semtech and UnaBiz are paving the way for LoRa Cloud geolocation on the Sigfox global 0G network, which is currently present in 70+ countries. This is fantastic, given how Semtech’s LoRa tech has emerged as a de facto IoT platform for LPWAN applications in IoT’s recent years.

Per a Semtech representative:

“LoRa Edge and the LoRa Connect transceivers offer cutting-edge radio performance with highly desirable features such as multi-band connectivity, ultra-low power Wi-Fi and GNSS scanning capabilities in a single monolithic silicon, making them highly cost-effective platforms for IoT and geolocation applications in the global unlicensed LPWAN market, ensuring wide coverage.”

We’re talking massively simplified IoT deployment with boosted global availability.

“With this collaboration, we’re bringing together the LoRaWAN and Sigfox ecosystems to expand Semtech's platform to an even larger footprint of LPWAN networks around the world, providing IoT developers and customers with best-in-class solutions for ultra-low power connectivity, security and cloud-based geolocation,” stated Tom Mueller, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the IoT System Products Group at Semtech.

"This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to provide our customers with the most cost-effective and energy-efficient technologies for sustainable solutions,” said Remi Lorrain, Vice President of Convergence at UnaBiz. “By accelerating technology convergence at the device and software layer, we provide our customers the freedom to select the most effective and relevant connectivity, leveraging Sigfox 0G network and LoRaWAN coverage, based on their business requirements and sustainability goals.”
