IoT Evolution Expo Platinum Sponsor UScellular and its Vice President of Operations and Sales, Mark Foster: A Valuable Connectivity Keynote

By

We’re in the midst of IoT Evolution Expo’s second day, y’all! As I write this, the massive exhibit hall just opened its doors; it’s legitimately quite the sight to see.

For a just a moment, let’s run this back to yesterday afternoon:

Before the first day’s goings-on broke for evening cocktails, UScellular’s Mark Foster (the company’s Vice President of Operations and Sales) delivered a keynote presentation chock-full of cellular and IoT-focused information. That conversation was officially titled “Delivering Value in Wholesale Connectivity.”

“As a relied-upon carrier, we focus on the most robust connectivity possible,” Foster began. “And when you boil it down, a frequent saying that floats around our teams is this: ‘Clients don’t care about the 99 devices that work perfectly. They care about the one that doesn’t.’ So, that’s what we continue to address.”

UScellular has built great (and highly measurable, as Foster displayed) value via its IoT networks, many with separate connectivity agreements for different players in the overall IoT space.

“We’re leveraging the full network,” Foster explained. “Every tower we have access to, other connectivity partners have access to. And when we power them up, we do so inside our own footprint. Everybody wins.”

Foster went on to discuss commercial flexibilities; what does make sense to UScellular’s IoT customers? What doesn’t make sense? What operational models elude them? What are others saying no to? (And in that vein, how can the complexities therein be tackled?)

“At UScellular, we deliver the right support for the right deployments — our 24/7 White Glove Support, specifically. We’re talking fast-tracked device certification, dedicated access to customer success teams, and dedicated Tier-3 tech support encompassing devices, applications and networks, plus resellers’ and vendors’ needs.”

UScellular places great focus on technology enablement. “We seek out customers and help them justify their key technology enhancements,” Foster said.

That included, as Foster put it:

  • Peer-2-Peer interconnect capabilities
  • Public, Private, and Hybrid Networks
  • Multi-Profile/Multi-IMSI, direct from manufacturers
  • Advanced Connectivity Management assurances
  • “every flavor of eSIM our customers can imagine”

“When we talk with our customers to understand their unique needs, we start with ‘Yes’ every time,” Foster concluded. “Through conversations, we ferret out what we can do to power their models up, and we assure them that our successes are theirs, too. And if there’s some magic bullet that scales, so to speak, that makes sense for us to enable, we productize it so our toolbelt is diversified and our customers’ business successes are accelerated.”
