Protecting Businesses with IoT: Somos Introduces SomosID for Greater Visibility into Installed Assets

At this year’s IoT Evolution Expo (part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience that took place from February 13-15 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida), one of the event’s keynote presentations was led by Sri Ramachandran, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Somos, Inc. During this “Can You Trust the IoT Devices You Use?” keynote, Ramachandran discussed challenges associated with reliably securing IoT devices, as well as the overall acceleration of widespread IoT applications and vulnerabilities therein that are unfortunately exploitable by bad actors. (Read that story in full here.)

In closing, Ramachandran wrapped up advisements regarding IoT device identities and fragmentation, outlooks on sufficient security measures, and what’s next for organizations. And in a few of those specific veins, he also covered Somos’ latest IoT identity management service: Somos ID.

"SomosID is not just a solution; it is a paradigm shift in how IoT security is realized and implemented,” Ramachandran stated. “By providing a detailed inventory of IoT assets and real-time vulnerability notifications, SomosID empowers owners to secure and manage their IoT assets with real confidence.”

So, let’s take this opportunity to look again at SomosID:

SomosID, per Ramachandran, is a comprehensive IoT asset registry management capability that takes into account “the growth of IoT technologies, and the significant expansion of the IoT attack surface for cyber criminals.” It equips teams with increased visibility into IoT asset activity, plus the tools needed to track assets’ identities and technical attributes (i.e. hardware and software bill of materials, related certifications, potential vulnerabilities, transfers of ownership, etcetera).

“As the world becomes more interconnected,” another Somos representative described, “we must foster an environment of greater trust and convenience. Somos is that trusted source, and SomosID is the latest addition to our global portfolio of reliable products and services so we can ensure more trust in our increasingly digital world.”
