Digi International's Connect Sensor XRT-M Resolves Key Industry Challenges

By

Good afternoon, readers.

If you frequent our sites like IoT Evolution World, Industrial IoT News, GenAI Today or Smart City Sentinel, chances are you’ve heard of Digi International.

Still, here’s the long-story-short of it, for any out of the loop:

Since 1985, Digi has pioneered wireless IoT solutions spanning diverse use cases for future-forward businesses. Even before the Internet of Things became mainstream, Digi built a variety of M2M devices. Years later, as the company evolved and continued adapting to likewise evolving network and industry standards, Digi pursued the rigorous optimization of data communications around countless advanced protocols and emerging technologies. (e.g. RF modems to gateways, cellular routers, networking devices, embedded SOM, SBCs, etc.) Digi has a ton to offer IoT ecosystems, which we’ve already discussed at length with its Director of Product Management for the company’s Infrastructure Management division, Ben Tucker. (Read our full interview here, as well as an IIoT-centric Digi story regarding the Digi IX40 5G industrial cellular router.)

Today, we have a new Digi topic to recap:

The Digi Connect Sensor XRT-M:

The Digi Connect Sensor XRT-M is the latest addition to Digi’s remote monitoring and control portfolio. Powered by Digi Axess, this is designed, as described by Digi, “to deliver reliable and seamless remote monitoring and management. It offers customers both edge and cloud-based control options, with a management platform equipped with an intuitive interface for streamlining data management and enhancing operational efficiency.” The Digi Connect Sensor XRT-M (which is reportedly being sold in accordance with Digi’s new “control-as-a-service” cost-efficient pricing model) also supports a wide range of infrastructure monitoring applications, including for civil and municipal engineering projects, wastewater and agriculture/environmental monitoring, industrial automation, etc. More features can be found here on Digi’s site, and they include the following:

  • Extended battery life with lightweight cloud connection and dual 14.5 Ah batteries
  • Rated for industrial environments with wide temperature range, C1D2 certification with NEMA enclosure
  • Configurable read and report intervals
  • Able to connect to and power multiple sensors
  • Modbus protocol support

“And remember, a big part of what makes us unique is that we are agnostic,” stated Brian Kirkendall, General Manager and Vice President of Infrastructure Management at Digi. “We provide the breadth and flexibility to work with your sensor provider of choice and support you with deep proficiency and cost-effectiveness so you truly get the most reliable remote visibility you need to run your business.”
