A Quick 'Peek' at New Self-Storage Monitoring Capabilities, Courtesy of Vantiva

Question, readers: If you have a self-storage unit (e.g. basic inside, outside or drive-up facility storage, sensitive climate-controlled storage, business or student units, etc.), ever gone to unlock it and hope on all your lucky stars that there’s nothing amiss once you open it up? (For example, you unlock it with your key or PIN code and pray that nothing’s toppled over and broken, compromised due to temperature spikes or dips or, worse yet, things have somehow been stolen.)

I’d bet a least a handful of self-storage unit renters can relate. This is why in-unit smart monitoring solutions exist.

Today, we’re talking about Vantiva’s.

For context, Vantiva is a self-described “dependable team of world-class solutions connectors.” Be it for one’s home, workplace or another type of smart space, Vantiva covers a variety of smart video capabilities for homeowners, commercial operations and beyond. (Vantiva has a great, detailed rundown; read here.)

And earlier this month, Vantiva announced the launch of Vantiva Peek, the company’s latest patent-pending smart camera system that features integrated motion, humidity and temperature sensors – all designed specifically for self-storage rental units.

Here’s a long-story-short type of excerpt from the official announcement: “Vantiva Peek is a complete in-unit monitoring solution, available exclusively from Vantiva's self-storage operator partners. Renters can access real-time and stored camera images and sensor data and receive automated alerts via a monthly service subscription to the Peek mobile app.

Simple enough, right?

Via this Peek app, renters tap into 24/7 Vantiva Smart Access into their unit(s); still photos are captured (as well as photo bursts when motion is detected), and user-scheduled intervals can be set up to distinguish between planned access windows and unplanned activity, potentially warranting further action. The Peek app issues automated alerts for “events” like motion detection, excess temperature rises or falls outside whatever the determined “safe range” is for items being stored, and much more. Peek cameras leverage Vantiva’s next-gen wireless infrastructure (i.e. long-range, low-power, solid battery life) to stay connected in large storage facilities, even highly rugged ones surrounded by concrete and steel construction. With wide-angle lenses, night vision, and built-in magnetic backing for ease-of-use mounting, Vantiva looks to have Peek stand apart from the pack, so to speak, as a true differentiator for self-storage safety.

“Consumers are increasingly willing to pay for highly sought-after video features, and they’re coming to expect always-on monitoring for what they value,” one Vantiva Peek business user explained. “Real-time visual evidence is a must for home security applications, self-storage monitoring, and even remote property management.”

Reza Raji, Senior Vice President of Vantiva Smart Spaces IoT, added to this.

“Vantiva Peek in-unit monitoring is the killer app the self-storage industry has been waiting for,” Raji said. “This solution meets consumers' expectations for smart security while adapting to the branding and business needs of self-storage operators at any scale.”
