Hey, y’all. A fine Thursday to everybody.
Let’s talk about Soracom, a provider of connected products and services for numerous IoT verticals today.
If you’re well-versed on Soracom, then you know why we cover its work frequently.
In short, Soracom has championed what feels like countless interconnectivity solutions. Soracom’s achievements span across its strategic partnerships, how it simplifies IoT deployments with SIMs/eSIMs and generative artificial intelligence, its configurable LTE-M-based smart buttons for rugged Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications, its zero-touch provisioning services, and overall its fully virtualized global connectivity management platform. (Read here for a recent story-by-story recap we put together, as well another update here on GenAI Today.)
Speaking of updates, check this out:
Last week, Soracom announced that it has officially received SOC 2 Type 1 assurance compliance for its aforementioned IoT platform.
What does this compliance entail, though?
Basically, this is thorough testing for an org’s cybersecurity controls. But not some just-sufficient-enough test, no; this assessment process, performed by external auditors, evaluates the deeper security and processing integrity behind specific connected solutions. Internal controls must meet all compliance benchmarks/framework requirements and follow security best practices to ensure product and data safety.
Per the announcement itself, the Soracom platform was assessed “under the Trust Service Criteria set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).”
And the result?
Soracom’s business processes and its Soracom IoT Platform’s internal control environment are “appropriately designed based on all applicable Trust Service Criteria.”
(Cue the fireworks, readers.)
While there was little doubt, examples of triple-checks and due oversight like this is important in IoT, especially at a time when data usage and privacy processes are being scrutinized and revamped. (Rightly so, too; consumers should be certain that the services they’re tapping into are safe, effective and reliable.
“Achieving SOC 2 Type 1 assurance compliance represents a significant milestone for Soracom,” stated Kenta Yasukawa, co-founder and CTO of Soracom. “Customers around the world trust Soracom with their data. That’s why we have made security a priority from day one. We are committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of security and trust, from the device to the cloud and in our own internal systems and processes.”
