Let’s take a second to talk about eSIMs, readers.
Embedded SIMs are forms of SIM cards that are — surprise, surprise — embedded directly into a device. At a glance, eSIMs are secure, they’re highly compatible with other technologies, and they enable connectivity with a given network without having to tinker with physical SIMs. In that vein, enterprise-grade eSIMs that are purpose-built for the Internet of Things have become essential for a great number of reasons; remote device activation, configuration and management within IoT ecosystems (i.e. a critical necessity for connecting IoT modules and sensors to compact, sensitive equipment and factory-spanning industrial machinery, alike), as well as for consumer-facing eSIMs found in health-tracking wearables, work tablets, smart home installations — the list goes on.
That’s a broad look at eSIMs, more or less; here’s another point that’s just a pinch more specific.
As we speak, what’s looking pretty clear is how many cross-industry IoT specialists are transitioning away from traditional SIMs over to eSIMs. Demand for eSIM innovation (“SIMovation” maybe?) from device manufacturers and chipmakers to telcos and other important providers is steadily growing. According to Counterpoint Research, more than 9 billion devices with eSIMs are expected to be shipped by 2030. That’s quite the opportunity to pounce on.
Enter Workz and Transa IoT.
Workz delivers a full suite of eSIMs and specializes in cloud-based solutions for mobile network operators (MNOs). This, in a nutshell, is why Transa IoT has officially acquired Workz, positioning the former as a hot name when it comes to next-gen Internet of Things capabilities.
Transa already provides semiconductors and related software and services for large-scale deployment across IoT. Its teams also specialize in System-on-Chip (SoC) optimizations and security-first solutions, aplenty. This, in tandem with data like Counterpoint Research’s concerning now-is-the-time mindsets towards eSIMs, adds big-time credence as to why Transa made this move to acquire Workz.
