A Burning Crisis: SenseNet and Juvare to Enhance Wildfire Detection and Response Capabilities via Advanced IoT Sensors

By

According to data from the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) and the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), between 71,854 and 75,882 acres burned as a result of raging wildfires — unfortunately, that only accounts for totals as of this past October.

As far as year-to-date wildfire stats go, the number of acres burned is upwards of 7,992,195.

Think of those most impacted; individuals’ levels of safety, their loved ones, livelihoods, businesses; too much of it has literally gone up in smoke.

So, what can be done from an IoT angle?

We’ve reported previously about Dryad Networks and its Ultra Early Wildfire Detection technologies (i.e. large-scale IoT sensor networks with “electronic noses” that can “smell”/readily distinguish between different types of organic forest materials and gas compositions, leading to actionable insights for other tech experts, first responders and more). Read more about that here.

Today, we’ve got news about two other organizations on their own race-against-the-clock journey of enhancing wildfire detection and emergency preparedness/comprehensive response capabilities.

Specifically, SenseNet and Juvare announced their strategic partnership, the goal of which is tightly focused on revolutionizing ground sensors, satellite data, other wildfire detection technologies and various real-time monitoring capabilities, to boot.

By integrating SenseNet’s early wildfire detection systems with Juvare’s robust incident management platform, the two are looking to streamline interagency communication and coordination, to improve first responders’ situational awarenesses, and to support them in identifying potential wildfire threats much earlier, leading to the deployment of widely accessible resources that protect people, their property, and the environment as a whole.

To date, Juvare’s platform has supported 500,000+ emergency response incidents globally, helping to manage complex emergency situations. The addition of SenseNet’s wildfire detection systems will bring even more powerful, data-driven insights to Juvare’s existing suite of products.

"Wildfires have become an increasingly significant threat worldwide, and having the right technology to detect, monitor, and manage these disasters is crucial to saving lives and mitigating damage," stated Rajib Roy, CEO of Juvare. "We are thrilled to partner with SenseNet to offer a solution that will provide a critical advantage for agencies tasked with responding to wildfires.”

“Our partnership with Juvare,” added Hamed Noori, CEO of SenseNet, “will enable us to provide agencies and first responders with an integrated solution that not only detects wildfires in their earliest stages with great precision, but also enhances their ability to respond to and manage these crises effectively."

This is what we need; innovators pushing boundaries to help on-the-ground teams and their communities proactively. Leadership in fire management needs all the help it can get to continually safeguard those in harm’s way.
