Zebra Technologies Brings Mobile Software to Bear on IoT

By

Zebra Technologies has launched Mobility DNA, a set of enterprise mobility software solutions to make businesses more efficient and productive through connected devices.

Mobility DNA is a suite of applications, development tools and utilities for Zebra’s ultra safe and secure mobile devices, designed for enterprise and industrial use. The suite includes document capture, push-to-talk (PTT), an app store, swipe assist and terminal emulation (TE) capabilities. The system is built on an Android OS, modified for use in enterprise and industrial applications specifically.

“We realized that our enterprise customers were ready for Android mobile, but it wasn’t ready for them,” said Mike Petersen, Head of Mobile Computing Global Marketing, Zebra Technologies. “So we built tools to make Android work better for our customers. We decided it was important to wrap all our offerings up into a comprehensive platform. That’s why Mobility DNA is so important.”

The new app gallery is critical to the success of the platform. It is a platform-specific Android marketplace, where customers can choose to tap into existing apps or build custom solutions that meet their M2M connectivity needs. “There was no app store for enterprise apps,” Peterson said. “Industrial users need tools that are specific to enterprise, including a non-Google mobility service, which is available in the store.”

The Workforce Connect PTT Pro tool marries the functionality of cellular signal, push-to-talk instant communication and wifi connectivity for VoIP telephony.

“Zebra is committed to end-to-end mobility solutions that enable our customers to run their operations reliably and deliver results where consumer-grade solutions simply fail,” said Joe White, VP, Enterprise Mobile Computing, Zebra Technologies. “Our Mobility DNA suite was developed to help businesses accelerate the adoption of their mobility solutions, improve productivity and operational agility and unlock true enterprise asset intelligence.”
