US Cellular to Deliver Sensor Devices for IoT Customers

By

U.S. Cellular has announced a new collaboration to deliver low-cost, cellular-connected business monitoring solutions manufactured by partner Monnit Corporation. Under the partnership, U.S. Cellular will deliver Monnit’s portfolio of almost 50 different types of wireless sensors and monitoring solutions, designed to remotely monitor business facilities, processes and activities in real time.

These wireless sensors will monitor critical business operations, including temperature, humidity, access, motion, water, light, voltage and vibration. The sensors will connect customers to the iMonnit online monitoring system via cellular-connected gateways on U.S. Cellular’s wireless network. The telecom’s customers will now have access to a complete wireless sensing and monitoring solution that is designed to keep track of critical functions, helping to ensure efficiency, maintain business operations, increase productivity and ensure security while increasing on-the-job safety, according to the announcement.

“No matter the size of your business, U.S. Cellular and Monnit provide solutions to keep business operations connected,” said Scott Scheuber, Director of Product Management, U.S. Cellular. “Combining U.S. Cellular’s award-winning wireless network with Monnit’s wireless sensors and online monitoring system creates an extremely reliable and flexible solution for remotely monitoring and tracking business-critical applications, freeing up valuable time and resources. Business owners and operations managers will feel more confident in their ability to streamline business processes and gain access to information they previously didn’t have.”

The solutions will offer cellular gateways to connect to online monitoring software via U.S. Cellular network, wireless sensors that will communicate with gateways up to 300 feet away, even outside of line-of-sight, sensor types available in coin cell and AA battery powered and weather and dust proof platforms, automated notifications via text message, email or voice call based on sensor readings and long battery life of up to two years with coin cell or five years with AA batteries.

“Monnit’s wireless sensing solutions paired with U.S. Cellular’s wireless network allow for instant creation of remote monitoring systems at offices, retail locations or other remote operations—this provides new levels of business awareness while avoiding the cost and time required to install traditional wired systems,” said Brad Walters, CEO, Monnit Corporation.
