Miami-Dade County Joins AT&T Smart Cities Initiative

Miami-Dade County is on the Smart City bandwagon, and residents should start preparing themselves for all the sweet, sweet technology.

The County has joined the AT&T Smart City initiative to bring improvements in public safety, transportation and traffic as part of the company’s larger effort to create impactful solutions for cities, counties and communities across the U.S.

Miami-Dade is Florida's most populated county, and there, the company will work with municipal leaders to develop and deploy technology solutions for smart lighting and Wi-Fi and other tools with the goal of improving residents’ safety, making public transportation more effective and efficient and reducing traffic congestion.

“Miami-Dade County is excited to team with AT&T to tackle our community's most pressing challenges head-on,” said Carlos Gimenez, Mayor, Miami-Dade County. “Our 2.7 million residents and millions of visitors will benefit from the continued investments we're making in our technology infrastructure.”

AT&T’s Smart Cities framework was announced in January with several initial spotlight cities and universities that included Atlanta, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Chicago and Dallas.The goal was to use IoT innovations to create solutions for cities and form alliances with technology leaders and industry organizations. At the time of announcement, the company had already formed alliances with Cisco, Deloitte, Ericsson, GE, IBM, Intel, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. to help support the new framework, building more connected communities.
