Soracom Closing the Gap Between IoT Strategy and Production Deployment in North America

By

IoT platforms have proliferated. APIs are abundant. Documentation is thorough. Yet, enterprises — including well-resourced ones — continue to struggle with the gap between proof of concept and production-grade deployment. Soracom is betting that what's missing isn't connectivity capability. It's expertise.

The company recently announced the availability of Soracom Professional Services in North America, extending to the US, Canada, and Mexico a services capability that has supported customers in Japan since 2019. The expansion gives North American customers direct access to Soracom's solutions architecture team across software and middleware development, connectivity design, billing platform integration, and cloud infrastructure.

The move reflects a candid acknowledgment of where IoT programs break down. Kenta Yasukawa, CTO and Co-Founder of Soracom, has been direct about the dynamic: even when a platform provides all the building blocks — APIs, documentation, programmable connectivity, AI tools — customers without dedicated development resources can't always get started on their own.

"We have been, since the beginning of our company, offering the building blocks for customers to build IoT architecture and digital transformation solutions, so that they don't have to build everything by themselves," Yasukawa explained. "But we realized that customers are not ready to use those building blocks to actually build a solution on top, especially when the customers are startups or some enterprise companies who don't have a development resource. Even if we provide all these documents and APIs and everything, they can't get started."

That gap is what Professional Services is designed to close. Engagements span the full IoT stack — from device integration and firmware through connectivity management, data pipeline architecture, cloud application integration, and AI-driven automation — with Soracom's programmable platform as the backbone. The team has advised customers across smart energy, fleet and logistics, retail and point-of-sale, healthcare devices, and video analytics.

"Soracom Professional Services has helped customers bring connected experiences to market at the scale of more than one million devices," Yasukawa said. "That required working alongside each customer through every stage, from architecture through production. We are proud to bring that same depth of partnership to customers in North America."

The model is deliberately flexible. After an engagement, customers can take over management of the infrastructure Soracom's team builds — or retain Soracom to maintain and operate it. Yasukawa describes the approach as similar to a systems integrator, but faster and more efficient because every solution is built on Soracom's own platform capabilities, including its AI layer.

Early customer feedback supports the premise. Brian Murphy, Ph.D., Founder of Murphy Tech Consulting Group, described Soracom's data platform and professional services team as a force multiplier for his consulting practice, noting that the combination of robust data capability and responsive support allowed his clients to move from prototype to production-grade IoT deployments in a fraction of the usual time — including in FDA-regulated environments.

Professional Services engagements are now available for new deployments, architecture reviews of existing programs, and ongoing deployment management support across global operations. For enterprises that have the connectivity vision but lack the internal resources to execute it, Soracom is now offering to close that gap directly.
