SensiML and Efabless Address IoT Challenges, Empower Developers

By

SensiML, Efabless, and their like-minded IoT partnership.

Let’s talk about it.

SensiML offers cutting-edge software tools designed to empower application developers so they can a.) rapidly build “smarter” IoT sensors and other devices, and b.) better utilize the data collected; you know, so meaningful insights are actually harnessed (rather than simply being left on the table, so to speak). The company’s flagship solution, the SensiML Analytics Toolkit suite, provides an end-to-end development platform spanning data collection, labeling, algorithm and firmware auto generation, testing, etc.

Then, Efabless. The team at Efabless is all about “redefining today’s creators.” What that specifically means is Efabless — specializing in custom semiconductor development — offers a creator platform for its chips that empowers developer communities on a global scale. Software devs, chip experts, students, researchers, you name it; Efabless aims to empower them all to design, fabricate, share and commercialize their own respective chip-focused innovations for Internet of Things applications.

And now, the two have partnered up.

Now, having established themselves as partners, SensiML and Efabless are determined to address a significant roadblock on the road to streamlined IoT development.

The roadblock in question?

Challenges — high costs and complexities, mainly — that come with building optimized, application-specific AI at the edge.

So together, SensiML and Efabless are on a strategic mission. They’re figuring out how to best simplify and accelerate ways around this roadblock by delivering fully open-source, highly customizable solutions designed to unlock more for developers and their intelligent IoT devices.

In the words of their official announcement, “Efabless's pioneering approach to custom SoC development enables IoT companies (that once found designing silicon too expensive or complex) to build application-specific hardware in mere months through the chipIgnite program. Meanwhile, SensiML provides embedded developers with the tools to rapidly build efficient AI models, even without extensive data science expertise. Together, the partnership opens doors to sophisticated edge AI solutions that were previously out of reach for many IoT developers.”

"We're very excited to be collaborating with Efabless to offer a comprehensive development pathway for intelligent edge devices," expressed Chris Rogers, CEO of SensiML. "By combining our strengths, our combined open-source solution will allow engineers to develop their AI workload and custom SoC in unison, empowering them to innovate and optimize intelligent IoT devices well beyond what is possible with stock hardware and general-purpose AI frameworks."

Learn more about the Internet of Things and AI at the edge at IoT Evolution Expo 2025 and Generative AI Expo 2025 respectively, each taking place from February 11-13, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, this event combines educational conference programming with a jam-packed exhibit hall, networking events and other activities, bringing together buyers and providers of business technology products and services that are huge for IoT.
