The Ins and Outs of Wi-Fi in Internet of Things Applications: Learn from Experts at IoT Evolution Expo 2025

By

It’s nearly 2025, and the Internet of Things is still evolving. Its very lifeblood — robust, reliable connectivity — remains an ever-important topic; what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what elements of IoT must be continually prioritized going forward.

We spoke recently about the role of LoRaWAN in IoT; read that story here.

Today, we’re talking about Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi’s role in IoT is still critical; increasingly so, in fact. Its widespread availability and ease of use make it a highly practical choice for connecting the myriad devices, sensors and other technologies that comprise dynamic IoT ecosystems. From smart home appliances/setups and health-focused wearables to connected vehicles and predictive monitoring systems in industrial environments, Wi-Fi enables real-time monitoring, remote operations and automation, gathering important analytics, and the seamless transmission of sensor data, device status updates and much, much more.

Or, to put it another way — think of how your home Wi-Fi network allows you to control smart lights, stream music to a speaker, and get notifications from your security system – all wirelessly. Now expand that concept to encompass everything from city infrastructure and healthcare to agriculture and manufacturing.

This all said, the book certainly hasn’t closed on Wi-Fi in IoT, so to speak; we don’t yet have all the answers or best-possible solution roadmaps. There’s still plenty we can learn (especially about in-building Wi-Fi applications for IoT devices and how far innovations therein can take us).

For more information on this topic, consider attending  IoT Evolution Expo 2025!

Part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, this will be taking place from February 11-13, 2025, at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

And on Thursday, February 13, 2025, attendees can join us for a session titled “Wi-Fi for IoT: Advances in Wi-Fi IoT Support.” This session and its panelists will discuss their unique experiences in deploying Wi-Fi for IoT applications; any challenges faced and overcome, what support people can access today, and more.
