HGH Infrared Systems: Spynel-S 3500 Being Used by British Navy

When securing the homeland from possible security threats, it is of vital importance that the equipment used is up-to-date and can accomplish what is necessary. The British Navy understands this and has employed the assistance of HGH Infrared Systems to do just that.

HGH designs, develops, assembles and sells high-end optronic systems for security and industrial applications. The company created its first version of Spynel, a twenty-four hour, seven day a week wide area surveillance system, with built in automatic intrusion detection and tracking component.

The British Navy will be using HGH’s Spynel-S 3500 in an integrated Compact Combat System for situational awareness and also for ship-based protection against small fast inshore attack crafts. Some of the benefits of using the Spynel S 3500 are: wide area coverage, simultaneous and real time visualization, detection and tracking of multiple intrusions in all directions, and its undetectable presence. It is an all-weather solution for ship-based protection at sea or providing surveillance for ships docked at ports. It has been previously deployed on French Navy war frigates for anti-piracy measures.

“We see C2S providing an extremely flexible but low-cost solution for navies wishing to provide support ships, mine hunters or other ‘disadvantaged’ units with improved situational awareness and selfprotection,’’ said Dirk Van Beek, campaign lead for International Mission Systems, QinetiQ, a British multinational defense technology company.
