According to Cisco, the Internet of Things (IoT) could potentially have 50 billion connected devices with a market value of $19 trillion. While there is no consensus on the exact numbers, the vast majority of organizations have forecasted billions of connected devices and trillions of dollars. So there seems to be an agreement of the market’s huge potential, but in order to capitalize on this opportunity, the underlying infrastructure and technology has to be in place. And increasingly, cloud is proving to be the best option not only for the IoT, but also for the delivery of virtually every IT solution individual consumers and organizations need.
A new arrangement between iland, provider of enterprise cloud solutions, and Cisco will introduce a delivery system that will integrate the technology of both companies so organizations can extend their IT infrastructure globally. According to the announcement, which was made at Cisco Live, iland’s enterprise cloud hosting services will be immediately available through Cisco Intercloud Fabric (ICF).
The iLand global cloud on demand delivers capabilities that allows companies to leverage hybrid cloud to address the complex digital environment in which they operate. They will gain more control and better workload placement while meeting compliance and security requirements.
“The need for agility continues to be one of the biggest drivers of cloud adoption, but that agility is often stifled by concerns over security and limited control,” said Dante Orsini, Senior Vice President of Business Development at iland.
Having access to iland’s Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) through the Cisco ICF will give enterprises multiple options for global accessibility, including:
Faster hybrid cloud deployments from their data centers into iland’s global cloud, available on-demand through a reliable network and security policies.
Leverage data center locations throughout the United States, United Kingdom and Singapore to meet compliance, end-to-end security and data sovereignty requirements.
Deliver consistent configuration across the hybrid environment for deploying workloads to the iland cloud alongside their network and security components, such as firewalls and routers.
Use the Cisco ICF management solution from a single on-premises console to manage the entire network and security of their hybrid cloud.
Initiate and scale cloud initiatives for production, testing and development.
Use the iland ECS portal to deliver complete visibility into performance to proactively manage and analyze global cloud operations and spend.
“In this new era of IT, Cisco Intercloud Fabric and Application Centric Infrastructure uniquely position iland to deliver cloud the way their customers need it,” said Gee Rittenhouse, Senior Vice President of Cisco's Cloud and Virtualisation Group.
Cisco has been making sizable investments to ensure it remains a key player in that $19 trillion market it forecasted. The company is putting its money where its mouth is by committing $1 billion in cloud financing. Additionally it has formed partnership with global service providers to be part of its Intercloud Partners, which currently has more than 250 new data centers in 50 countries. The new arrangement with iLand extends its reach with a platform that simplifies the delivery of cloud services. By having all these systems in place, Cisco has positioned itself to improve its cloud services and hit the road running when the deployments of IoT devices begin.
