The competitive battlefield for IoT dominance seems to be in the cloud these days. Cisco seems to be dominant , but Salesforce’s new CRM analytics solution gives it a definite edge. Not to be counted out, IBM has unveiled a global Fog computing expansion plan designed to make its portfolio the one to rule them all.
IBM announced September 28 its plans to globally expand business solutions capabilities with a suite of new, cloud-based Industry Platforms. These platforms are made to simplify and accelerate clients’ digital strategies, according to the release, by delivering fast, simplified access to cloud services that allow clients to exploit Big Data.
“Our portfolio of Cloud Business Solutions is in recognition of the mandate for speed and time to value, along with the requirement of clients to personalize business solutions to their own processes and culture and deploy them via the cloud,” said Sanjay Rishi, Managing Partner, Cloud Consulting Services, IBM Global Business Services. “Our new IBM Cloud Business Innovation Center will help us co-create with our clients, addressing their unique needs with tailored solutions, delivered on the cloud for fast results.”

The company’s Cloud Business Solutions project has been live since 2014 as part of IBM Global Business Services. So far, this program has been applied in more than 500 client situations. This announcement builds on that portfolio by combining multiple Cloud Business Solutions with deep industry content. Each Industry Platform gives users access to a set of standard assets that can be quickly customized to any strategic purpose.
Three platforms were revealed in this initial release: Retail Consumer Experience, which will help retailers deploy engagement capabilities to deliver high-value consumer experiences; a Personalized Learning platform for educators and corporations looking to help students and employees learn better by leveraging data to create personalized learning models; and Insights for a Connected World, which is tailored specifically for the IoT developer looking to leverage fog and cloud to inform new business models, improve customer service and business operations.
See you all in Rivendell.
