IoT Evolution Speakers: Randy Van Buren Speaks Out

By

The IoT Evolution Expo is the only Internet of Things industry event focused on Enterprise-level strategic planning and engineering-lead solutions to IoT and IIoT challenges. We have invited a world-class speaking faculty to join us and help provide our conference delegates with the critical business intelligence they need to formulate strategy for the next year.

We reached out to our speakers and asked them for a preview for their sessions to give you a little taste of what to expect at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas July 17 to 20 for the IoT Evolution Expo. To register now, click here.

Randy Van Buren is a Senior IoT Solutions Engineer at Nokia, currently focused on IoT service providers for cross-domain platforms spanning fixed, mobile, home, enterprise, and government. He has been involved with the largest operators in North America for identity, device, and subscriber profiles and their relationships across network access methods. Likewise, as a Senior Member of IEEE he is committed to standardization groups, academic rigor, and educational sharing of lessons learned. In his session on Remote Monitoring and Management with co-presenters Shu Gan of Numerex and Arthur Lozinski of Oomnitza, he will talk about systems fidelity and OTA updates.

IoT Evolution World: What will be some key points you plan to hit in your session?

Randy Van Buren: Key aspects will be unique identification of end points, naming resolution on the internet versus intranet, and client versus server initiated updates to devices.

IoTEW: What new insights can attendees expect to take home from your session?

RVB: Insights gained will include existing standards and those yet to come for device management of non-IP addressable end points.

IoTEW: Can you identify a few important trends influencing your sector of the IoT which will shape the path of the industry?

RVB: The trend for the wide array of OEM-specific solutions to consolidate toward more open and standard marketplace allowing information exchange.

IoTEW: What are the biggest challenges facing the IoT? What are some important tools needed to overcome them?

RVB: Many devices are unmanaged, with odd behaviors that need correcting in the field. Long term software lifecycle tools are needed.

IoTEW: Which vertical markets have the most to gain from IoT implementation?

RVB: Empowering home owners and farmers to be in self-sustaining to update and manage complex software embedded devices.

IoTEW: What session(s) (other than yours) are you most looking forward to attending at the Expo?

RVB: I’m looking forward to sessions on gateway devices to mesh together third-party networks at the intranet level.
