Howdy, readers. I hope everyone is staying cool in this immense summer heat.
Let’s talk about some news that dropped yesterday. The two parties involved need little introduction – Oracle and AT&T.
But first, a question:
How many times have y’all read “Connectivity is the lifeblood of IoT.” in my articles? Once? Twice? Seven times?
The answer?
By my calculations (i.e. digging into my stash of saved Internet of Things content), it’s been at least two dozen times. Still, I’m saying it again, y’all – connectivity truly is the lifeblood of IoT. Improving how devices communicate to one another, how data is efficiently transmitted, and how innovators tap into those connections to make insight-driven decisions in their respective industries is what it’s all about.
And you better bet your bottom dollar that industry giants like Oracle and AT&T know this, too. After all, each of their histories are steeped in communication optimizations.
And so, as part of a critical step towards bringing real-time communications to its evolving suite of cloud applications, Oracle has announced that it is incorporating AT&T’s IoT connectivity capabilities and network APIs into its own Enterprise Communication Platform (ECP).
According to the official announcement, this integration “will enable Oracle's industry cloud application customers to connect and manage their IoT devices on the AT&T network all-in-one platform.”
Supported by AT&T, ECP is poised to deliver IoT connectivity and near real-time communications to Oracle's suite of industry cloud applications. With integrated capabilities like IoT edge application management, this all-in-one offering does away with the burden many customers feel when it comes to managing complex integrations and networks contracts. Built on the secure, high-performance Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), businesses get the connectivity and real-time data intel they need to power what AT&T defines as “next-gen services and experiences.”
As of this week, the integration with AT&T IoT connectivity and network APIs is available across OCI regions in the U.S.
"AT&T remains committed to empowering our ecosystem partners to build solutions that integrate AT&T programmable connectivity, whether using our IoT APIs or our emerging network APIs," stated Sarita Rao, Senior Vice President, AT&T Partner Solutions. "By teaming with Oracle to incorporate IoT connectivity and programmable APIs into Oracle industry applications, we’re providing businesses a much tighter level of integration between the network and application, driving performance and reliability gains while also eliminating integration requirements and separate contracting events. It's co-creation at its best."
Learn more about developments like these at IoT Evolution Expo 2025, which will be taking place from February 11-13, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, this event combines educational conference programming with a robust exhibit hall, networking events, and other activities, bringing together buyers and providers of business technology products and services.
