CalAmp to Power UK's RAC Advanced Services

By Ed Silverstein August 27, 2013

CalAmp is now shipping a telematics device, the CalAmp LMU-3050, to RAC Motoring Services for its Advance program.

The LMU-3050 provides crash detection, alerts to prevent auto breakdowns, methods for fuel saving, driver scoring, roadway assistance and customer support for car owners, insurance clients and commercial fleet customers.

The LMU-3050 uses crash sensing and logging, self-calibrating accelerometer technology, monitoring of vehicle performance, safety issues and driving behavior, as well as vehicle location.

The devices are supported by CalAmp's Programming, Update and Logistics System (PULS) platform. It supports more than 2.3 million devices. Also, RAC has over seven million customers.

"CalAmp is thrilled to be part of this ground-breaking program with the RAC and proud that our new LMU-3050 next generation telematics device is the first to meet the RAC's high standards," Greg Gower, senior vice president and general manager of CalAmp's Mobile Resource Management business, said in a statement. "The new LMU-3050 vehicle telematics device provides a wealth of reliable diagnostic, maintenance and driving performance information that will power the RAC's Advance program."

"Serving motorists for 116 years, the RAC has consistently been a market leader in technology, innovation and adopting new practices to support our members," Kerry Michael, RAC commercial director, said in the statement. "Our new RAC Advance program is further evidence of that and solidifies our role as the U.K. motorists' guardian angel. We are delighted to have CalAmp as our telematics technology partner and we are very pleased to accept volume deliveries of the RAC's LMU-3050 telematics devices for our Advance initiative. CalAmp's history of innovation, execution and performance in providing high-quality wireless solutions is unsurpassed. Their deep experience in [machine to machine] will help ensure we deliver on our promise to our members."
