NXP Accelerates Secure Edge Solutions with Ecosystem Partners

By Ken Briodagh June 07, 2018

In a recent announcement, NXP Semiconductors, a secure connectivity solutions provider, and several global system providers detailed plans to support NXP’s Arm-based platform for edge computing applications spanning enterprise, industrial, retail and carrier applications.

Together, the companies will enable deployment of a secure infrastructure for edge computing. It supports emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning inferencing at the Edge as well as cloud-deployed secure edge processing. EdgeScale, a suite of device and cloud services, simplifies the provisioning of secure computing resources at the edge of networks. NXP is working with these partners to enable secure deployment and management of IoT and on-premises computing platforms with scalability, security and ease of deployment.

“Having edge solutions that are secure will play a critical role of the success of the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0,” said Tareq Bustami, SVP and GM, Digital Networking, NXP. “We are eager to be working with leading equipment manufacturers to provide easy to use, secure edge computing solutions with cloud connectivity. Collectively we will help deliver smarter, more capable solutions at the edge built on robust security features that are easy to deploy and manage at scale.”

The collaborating companies develop products based on NXP’s Layerscape and i.MX application processor families for a variety of applications requiring local processing coupled with cloud connectivity. These platforms provide an optimum balance of compute, connectivity, and storage, and are designed for operation in both Enterprise and Industrial environments.

“The delivery of compute closer to the edge, where data is generated, is key to the successful deployment of IoT as we strive toward our vision of a trillion secure, connected devices,” said John Ronco, VP and GM, embedded and automotive, Arm. “NXP’s EdgeScale platform will enable users and providers to quickly create and deploy optimal solutions for their specific applications.”

As part of the EdgeScale ecosystem initiative NXP, continues to work with Alibaba. NXP and Alibaba will leverage and integrate the EdgeScale platform to help create high value IoT applications that support AI and Machine Learning for predictive analytics, connected cars, predictive maintenance, intelligent buildings and edge intelligence.
