IoT Evolution World Week in Review: Huawei, Salesforce.com, Mozilla

By

Hey folks, happy St. Patrick’s Day from IoT Evolution World. Slainte. We’ll get to the news in just a bit, but first a quick reminder about the IoT Evolution Expo in Las Vegas, July 11 to 14. If you want to get in on it as a sponsor or exhibitor, now’s the time, so hook up with Matt Gleeson, our Biz Dev maestro.

And now, the news:

Huawei made a big splash at Mobile World Congress this month, and the company is wasting no time in building on that momentum, with two big announcements this week. It unveiled a new Openlab and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KUKA, a robotics technology developer, to develop smart manufacturing solutions for industrial markets in Europe and China, both at CeBIT.

Salesforce.com joined the IoT with its Thunder Cloud service last fall, and it’s about time the company dropped some features on us. Well, this week it delivered. First up, a new report from the company seeks to prove a case for improving field service efficiency through technology from the IIoT. And, to help such companies bring the IoT Thunder, Salesforce has also introduced Field Service Lightning, which is designed to leverage cloud computing to help companies deliver connected, intelligent customer service.

Our special guest columnist Colin McCabe of Red Hat gave us a seven-point check list for kicking off an IoT journey.

This week on the IoT Time Podcast, I spoke with Li Gong, CEO of Acadine Technologies, and former President of Mozilla, to talk about IoT operating systems, why they matter, and why Adadine's H5OS is unique. I also sat down with David Rolfe, IoT Technology Evangelist at Openet, and welcome back Ryan Betts, CTO at VoltDB. We talk about data, security and dig into the real purpose and potential of the IoT.

There’s plenty more to read, listen to and watch, so visit us on IoT Evolution World for all the IoT news, my friends. Keep the IoT Evolution Expo in Fort Lauderdale in your calendar.
