Soracom's New Affordable Data Plan for European Innovators in IoT

By

Soracom, Inc. – a 2015-founded provider of premier IoT services – has popped up in our news feeds quite a lot, as of late.

Take earlier this morning, for example. Fresh off the presses, Soracom announced three new generative AI/ML-powered services that are designed to simplify IoT deployments. Striking while the AI irons are hot, so to speak, seems to be on most businesses leaders’ minds; Soracom is no exception.

We also covered Soracom-related news earlier this year; after being named a Visionary in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Managed IoT Connectivity Services, Worldwide, Soracom launched (in joint development with UnaBiz) an LTE-M-based multi-purpose, configurable smart button for IoT. Soracom later announced an industrial-grade SIM card for its portfolio of eSIM and IoT SIM solutions, too.

So, the Soracom-centric purpose of this piece?

A new cellular data plan for Europe.

This comes as no surprise, given how Soracom has grown into a global team (with its offices in Seattle, Tokyo and London) of technologists, strategists, and IoT architects on a mission to modernize connectivity. So this new plan, designed to support European startups and SMBs accelerate deployments of connected products and services, comes in a low-cost bundle in order to keep it more accessible.

Soracom’s Plan X3-EU, for a full year of cellular IoT data at 25MB per month (and zero hidden fees) starts at €4.50. Plan upgrades for 50MB, 100MB, 500MB, 1GB, 5G and up are also available.

As Soracom explains, Plan X3-EU provides users access to the provider’s fully virtualized connectivity platform. With said access, users can launch IoT projects fast (and succeed at scale) via advanced cloud integrations, secure networking services, etc. These should prove vital, given how the region has been known to stoke sparks of competition across a plethora of various head-to-head providers with their respective plans. Soracom’s key interest here, as mentioned, lies in the affordability and accessibility; especially for M2M (machine-to-machine) devices and sensors. Pioneers in IoT the world over should have the bandwidth to, as Soracom put it, “focus on innovation and be able to get back to building, rather than worrying about costs or connectivity.”

Additionally, Plan X3-EU:

  • Assures reliable connectivity across Europe, covering LTE-M, 4G, 3G and even 2G (where available)
  • Includes Soracom’s network management console and API at no added cost

“When it comes to IoT connectivity, we know that companies building and scaling connected experiences in Europe face complex choices,” said Ken Otsuki, Director of Business Development and Head of Carrier Relations at Soracom. “With Plan X3-EU, they no longer have to compromise. Our customers can now get the benefits of broad coverage and transparent, predictable pricing without compromising on technical capability or expert support.”
