Trimble Agriculture APIs Expand Value for Farmers and Agribusiness Partners

By

Let’s talk about Trimble, IoT and agriculture.

Founded in 1978 by Charlie Trimble, this industrial technology company – concentrated on helping the world work better – has extended its solutions to serve industries across industries on a global scale (claiming more than 2,000 issued patents as it grew). Today, with core technologies in positioning, modeling, connectivity and data analytics, 3,400 Trimble team members remain dedicated to product development and outside-the-box solutions

Now, IoT-powered agricultural endeavors.

“Farming is hard,” a Trimble representative wrote matter-of-factly, “but with the power of Trimble agriculture technologies that combine simplicity with innovation, a modern farming approach becomes achievable.”

While no one can control crop prices or the weather itself, Trimble can help simplify the workflow and seamless connectivity solutions required to elevate agribusiness. This, per Trimble, includes land preparation technology that optimizes crop yields and enhances overall farm productivity and profitability for seasons ahead, technologies for planting, seeding, nutrient management and fertilizing, crop protection, water management and more.

“You have plenty to do,” Trimble Agriculture wrote, talking to farmers. “Leave precision to us. We’re committed to delivering user-friendly solutions that are highly compatible across your farms, equipment, and brands.”

So, the Trimble Agriculture arm of the company has expanded, and that’s exactly what this news covers.

Trimble announced the release of its flexible API for the Trimble Agriculture Cloud. The long-story-short of this is simple: Agribusiness industry partners are able to connect to Trimble Agriculture APIs to exchange data between Trimble Ag Software accounts, Trimble displays and their applications, streamlining key farming operations. The new availability of this API represents, quote, “the next evolution of connectivity for agriculture integrators by coupling in-field devices and operational workflows, enabling deeper compatibility with both Trimble and third-party agriculture applications.”

Moreover, Trimble Agriculture APIs extend value by collecting robust industry datasets, and they support a large number of other exchanges and workflows, including aligning field resources (client/farm/field, boundaries, guidance lines, landmarks, etc.) between connected third party applications and Trimble readouts.

"At Trimble, our vision is to help farmers work more efficiently via through data-driven farming practices and decision support tools," stated Dave Britton, Vice President of Product Management, Trimble Agriculture. "Enabling farmers to complete workflows that involve solutions from multiple technology providers is critical, especially in cases where third-party applications address unique regional farming practices. With this in mind, we created the Trimble Agriculture Cloud and an expanded, flexible API in order to establish a place where integrators could easily connect and share data, regardless of brand."
