Happy Hump Day, IoT “drinkers.”
(Get it? Because you’re, you know, metaphorically “drinking” our Internet of Things news “tea” and such?)
… I may need less-corny article intros now and again, huh?
Well anyway, let’s breeze right past that and into today’s story; we’re discussing ZEDEDA and Edge Impulse.
ZEDEDA has been featured several times here on IoT Evolution World — ZEDEDA excels in the management and orchestration of the distributed edge. Its teams make edge computing as painless as can be; they keep it open and intrinsically secure, extending cloud experience and agility to the edge itself. ZEDEDA also greatly reduces the overall cost of managing and orchestrating distributed edge infrastructure and applications (while increasing visibility and control).
Last year, we covered ZEDEDA’s debut of its ZEDEDA Edge Application Services, as well as the announcement of its ZEDEDA Certified Edge Computing Associate (ZCEA) certification. The former makes it easier for IoT-minded customers to instantly gain more granular control across all their edge applications (including modern AI-powered ones), and the latter — available to anyone interested in diving deeper into the edge computing industry — is free and vendor-agnostic, and the certificate to be gained can be shared on resumes, online profiles and job boards.
Earlier this year (back in May), we spoke even more about IoT device management at the edge; specifically, in the vein of ZEDEDA’s then-announced ZEDEDA Edge Sync, which is ideal for IoT network and edge deployments wherein challenges arise, demanding a different approach.
However, I haven’t yet had the pleasure of covering Edge Impulse; let’s do that now.
Edge Impulse, as the company itself describes, “is ushering in the future of embedded machine learning by empowering developers to create and optimize solutions with real-world data.” Edge Impulse’s in-house experts work towards making the process of building, deploying, and scaling embedded ML applications much easier (and faster), which can unlock massive cross-industry value for IoT developers.
Founded in 2019, the Edge Impulse M.O. is still dead-set on ushering in this future; on creating the next generation of intelligent devices that have significantly positive real-world impacts.
In present day, Edge Impulse also focuses on robust AI for any edge device; sensors, cameras, gateways, containers, MCUs, CPUs, GPUs, you name it. “Build datasets, train models, and optimize libraries to run directly on device,” as one Edge Impulse representative put it. “From the smallest microcontrollers to gateways with the latest neural accelerators, and anything in-between.”
With the Edge Impulse platform, users can bring greater intelligence to their devices. This can unlock valuable sensor data, reduce time to market and the costs of Bills of Materials (BoMs), and remove tedious, repetitive development steps and undue complexities to bring more to our evolving digital ecosystem.
And now, ZEDEDA and Edge Impulse are coming together, combining the best of both their worlds (in a manner of speaking) to further empower enterprise developers in IoT.
Following their recently announced partnership, ZEDEDA and Edge Impulse will be providing end-to-end automation for AI model development, deployment and orchestration at scale.
“We’re witnessing firsthand the explosive growth of AI and data-driven initiatives throughout our customer base and have seen the challenges inherent in delivering and iterating these projects within remote and distributed IoT environments,” explained Said Ouissal, ZEDEDA’s founder and CEO. “Edge Impulse’s leadership in delivering edge AI models is a great complement to ZEDEDA’s expertise in orchestrating and securing edge applications and devices at scale, and I’m delighted to offer our customers a comprehensive solution to streamline and accelerate their AI transformation efforts.”
Zach Shelby, Edge Impulse’s co-founder and CEO, also commented.
“We’re thrilled to partner with ZEDEDA to empower enterprise developers to unlock the full potential of edge AI. By leveraging ZEDEDA’s edge security and virtualization platform, we aim to simplify and accelerate the deployment, management and orchestration of intelligent applications closer to data sources,” Shelby added. “This collaboration represents a significant step toward the widespread adoption of enterprise edge computing.”
With this joint effort, customers will be able to deploy their Edge Impulse AI models through the ZEDEDA Marketplace (packaged alongside other applications) with a secure, single-click process to fleets of IoT devices. The expansive Edge Impulse and ZEDEDA ecosystems will also reportedly provide a wide range of partner technologies that can further propel edge computing initiatives.
