Soracom and Sequans are Accelerating Global IoT with New Evaluation Kits

By

Pleasant Thursday afternoon greetings, readers.

It’s nearly Friday, with February coming right around the bend. (Albeit at molasses-on-wheels pace, it feels like. I’ve spoken with folks on our editorial team and in my personal life, and my word has this January felt like a slow year unto itself, for most of us. But hey, time is soup anyway.)

Anywho, let’s get to the news.

It’s no secret that Soracom, Inc. takes great care to prioritize its strategic partnerships. (As a globally trusted provider of advanced IoT solutions, it’s a must.) We recently covered the fruits of these labors, so to speak, when Soracom announced the commercial launch of its iSIM and its iSIM-compatible cellular module. This was altogether made possible via its partnerships with other like-minded innovators at Murata, Kigen, and Sony Semiconductor Israel.

Now, we’ve got another update to add to the board:

Earlier today, Soracom and fellow connectivity solutions developer and supplier Sequans announced an expansion of their ongoing partnership. The goal? Further simplify the development of IoT projects by offering evaluation kits (EVKs) powered by Soracom’s global IoT connectivity.

According to the official announcement, each kit comes with a Soracom global IoT SIM card preloaded with connectivity “for up to 3 months, allowing users to benefit from cellular coverage in +170 territories, including LTE-M coverage in 51 territories and NB-IoT coverage in 35.” This also enables access to the Soracom suite of other connectivity solutions, which offers features that can “help secure a deployment, transmit data directly to cloud functions, manage IoT devices remotely and more.”

So yeah, IoT application developers now have access to Sequans’ leading LTE-M/NB-IoT and Cat 1bis technology, combined with Soracom’s global connectivity.

Notably, for those looking for additional details, these EVKs are presently available in two variants:

  • LTE-M/NB-IoT (Sequans Monarch2 GM02S EVK): This second-generation LPWA technology from Sequans features ultra-low power consumption and a compact form factor, making it ideal for applications such as smart utility meters, industrial sensors, health and fitness trackers, and more.
  • LTE Cat 1bis (Sequans Calliope2 GC02S1 EVK): This features Sequans’ leading Cat 1bis technology, certified in North America and Europe. It can operate on any LTE network worldwide, ideal for deployments that require global coverage with cross border connectivity, such as connected vehicles, logistics tracking systems, and telematics.

Per Takashi Serizawa, Head of Europe Region at Soracom:

“We are laser-focused on helping developers and enterprises bring their IoT projects to life quickly and efficiently. That is why, by expanding our collaboration with Sequans and offering these EVKs with Soracom connectivity, we’re removing friction from the development process and enabling our customers to test, iterate, and scale their IoT solutions with ease."

And per Olivier Pauzet, EVP of Marketing and Strategy at Sequans:

“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with Soracom and provide developers with the tools they need to launch their IoT solutions quickly and efficiently. The combination of Sequans’ hardware and Soracom’s connectivity creates an effective and efficient solution that can make scaling an IoT deployment easier by ensuring a smooth transition from the evaluation stage to full deployment.”

Finally, to close this on a pertinent note, Soracom CEO Kenta Yasukawa will be speaking at the upcoming Industrial IoT Conference on Wednesday, February 12 from 1:30-2:00 PM. There, he’ll be speaking about the integrity of IoT devices, the right fits for more industrial-focused projects, the integration of generative AI and more.

The Industrial IoT Conference (and IoT Evolution Expo 2025) are both part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience. This will be taking place soon! From February 11-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, attendees will immerse themselves in the in-depth conference programming, various networking events, a robust (and recently expanded) exhibit hall and other activities that promote educated togetherness between buyers and providers of crucial IoT products and services.
