Eurotech Extends Its Passenger Counting Family

By Bob Emmerson May 02, 2013

Eurotech, a vendor of embedded technologies, products and systems, has unveiled DynaPCN 10-20, a compact and fully integrated passenger counter. Key features include the Ethernet communications facility, which was specifically designed for public vehicles, and precise algorithms for counting passengers as they enter and depart trains, trams and buses. The DynaPCN 10-20 extends the family of DynaPCN products that are certified for railway applications.

The new product employs noncontact, stereoscopic vision technology coupled with real-time image analysis. This allows the solution to count passengers with high accuracy levels without the need for additional processing by other systems.

The company’s on-board computer product portfolio lets transportation customers link several passenger counters on one single vehicle, while EveryWare Cloud technology enables decisions about usage and schedules to be made in real time. In addition, the DynaPCN 10-20 can be combined with Eurotech’s mobile computing systems to create an intelligent, customizable network having advanced surveillance, communication and infotainment capabilities.

Benefits of deploying a passenger counting system include: Comparing and verifying fare collection figures with passenger counts; Validating passenger counts to justify payments due to transportation companies; Scheduling maintenance and cleaning based on vehicle usage; Optimizing vehicle load across regions, time periods, or other factors; Monitoring service quality.

EveryWare Cloud is Eurotech’s M2M platform. It functions in a similar way to Gartner’s Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) concept. Right now this is a somewhat controversial topic, but Eurotech found that it was in line with their thinking and their solution follows the general concepts of iPaaS. However, the design focus is on integrating distributed systems into the IT world through standard protocols and API´s. This enables the integration of captured vehicular data into back-office systems, which subsequently generates reports or graphs the data in real-time, thereby enabling fast, efficient business decisions.

Robert Andres, chief marketing officer at Eurotech said, “The DynaPCN product line is a trusted solution that has been deployed by transportation customers around the world. The new DynaPCN 10-20 improves the product for even more accurate counting levels while easing integration with other systems.”
