AI-Powered Water Leak Detection for Homeowners, Courtesy of Lisios

By Alex Passett August 25, 2023

Throughout our everyday lives, people tend to gravitate towards simple solutions. (The simpler, the better.) If a problem’s more complex – and an individual or a team lacks an opportunity to tackle it with a mirrored mindset – find the simplest-possible solution to nip it in the bud. That’s just a ton of human behavior.

So, let’s translate that to simple solutions for complicated problems within the context of smart home innovations. With modern sensor technology, for example, AI and cloud architectures enable simpler solutions to become realities for homeowners and, in that same vein, businesses too.

That’s where Lisios steps in. With plenty of hard-earned experience in IoT and smarter living industries, Lisios harnesses best-in-class technologies to make life as worry-free as possible for customers and partner organizations. Whether these solutions start in Lisios’ electronics hardware lab or at the fingertips of a software development expert, the jobs get done without overloading the people benefitting most from the solutions themselves.

That takes us to the newest from Lisios; namely, the Lisios WaterAlarm that utilizes AI to actually detect water leaks at home.

Though not frequently grouped in the “Is it a blessing or is it a curse?” type of thinking, there’s water. Water is a source of life, but also a source of immense damage if poorly handled. It can lead to legitimate ruin for homes (or even offices or factories) if it ends up escaping from closed water systems due to a burst pipe, for example. Following its damages (often super expensive ones), additional risks can pile up. Lisios reports that, on average, an instance of severe water damage occurs literally every seven seconds amongst U.S. homeowners and business owners.

This can’t be left unchecked.

So, per Lisios, how about some well-trained AI to do the checking?

The Lisios WaterAlarm detects leaks at incredibly early stages using AI. Homeowners, in such a case, are immediately warned via the accompanying app. WaterAlarm also goes an extra mile, measuring real-time water consumption and providing users an ongoing list of recommendations for their space (in terms of how to save water and what to look out for, precursors-wise). As a reliable early-warning system, WaterAlarm can be easily installed without a plumber or a whole shed’s worth of tools, and it even features:

  • 24/7 micro-leak monitoring
  • Frost warnings when temperatures drop to avoid bursts
  • Storage of emergency contacts to notify when a leak is flagged

According to Lisios, its founder and CEO Patrick Franken came up with the idea for the WaterAlarm a couple years back when numerous forms of water damage plagued his own home. After big-time cleanup and costly repairs, Franken realized that the existing systems on the market proved to be too expensive, requiring a professional installation service.

So, Franken teamed up with Lisios co-founder and engineer Niklas Voigt. Together, the Lisios WaterAlarm requires only attachment with a mounting strap and secures peace of mind for those relying on smart technologies. And since the name of their company was derived from a Greek mythos term “Lysios” (essentially meaning “freer of worries” or “worry-breaker”), it’d make sense that WaterAlarm would see major positive results.
