A fine Monday afternoon to you wonderful IoT readers.
Today, let’s talk about news involving Kudelski IoT and Silicon Labs.
Part of the Kudelski Group (i.e. provider of digital business enablement technologies that encompass digital content security, public access, cybersecurity and IoT, of course), Kudelski’s IoT division provides end-to-end Internet of Things solutions, product design, and full-lifecycle services to IoT device manufacturers, end-user companies, and ecosystem creators. Making this possible are Kudelski Group’s nearly three dozen offices around the world and more than 3,250 experts redefining strategic securities.
“No matter where you are on your IoT journey,” per Kudelski IoT, “we have the expertise to enable hard-working teams in creating new business models, driving insights, securing critical assets and differentiating IoT-driven solutions at scale.” (Read previous IoT Evolution World stories we wrote about Kudelski IoT by clicking here and here.)
Additionally, last year Kudelski IoT announced that it would provide even more security services and technologies to manufacturers adopting Matter, the universal connectivity standard for smart home devices from the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). Since then, Kudelski IoT was approved for Matter by the CSA as a Product Attestation Authority (PAA) and Certificate Authority (CA). This will prove vital to this particular new tory
Then, there’s Silicon Labs. Seen as a trailblazer in wireless connectivity for IoT, Silicon Labs’ integrated hardware and software platform, intuitive development tools and deep ecosystem support (e.g. for Google Home, Amazon Sidewalk, the Matter Development Journey etc.), enables it to be the picture-perfect long-term partner for building advanced commercial and industrial applications while leading the charge in high-performance, low-power solutions.
“Silicon Labs was founded on the belief that RF would change the world,” per the company. “We saw that potential and kept innovating. By building silicon, software and other pivotal solutions, we can transform industries and economies for a smarter, more connected world.”
A righteous mission statement, to be sure.
With that all info front and center, the news here is simple:
Kudelski IoT announced that, in collaboration with Silicon Labs, it is accelerating the time to market for Matter-certified IoT devices. By integrating Kudelski IoT’s Matter Device Attestation Certificates (DAC) into Silicon Labs’ Custom Part Manufacturing Service (CPMS), the two are enabling device makers to build secure Zero Trust solutions for IoT that save on costs and time.
For context, the key to a successful Zero Trust approach is “Never trust. Always verify.” This demand for continuous authentication is fundamental to Matter, which mandates unique device authentication certificates using Public Key Infrastructure, or PKI.
And so, by combining Kudelski's certified Matter PKI service with Silicon Labs' secure manufacturing capabilities, IoT manufacturers can now have Matter DACs securely injected during production, streamlining the path to Matter volume manufacturing.
"Kudelski IoT's Matter Product Attestation Certificate Service does the heavy lifting for you, allowing you to join the Matter ecosystem easily," explained Chrystophe Clément, Principal Architect at Kudelski IoT. "We're excited to partner with Silicon Labs to scale Matter adoption and reduce the burdens for manufacturers.”
