Smart LED Makers for M2M Say 'Let There Be IoLight'

One of the hottest areas of growth in the connected home and office is in lighting. It uses enough energy to make a difference on the bill, and is very likely the electric system most used by occupants of the average building, with all the on and off and societal concern with switching to energy efficient bulbs. On the other side of the spectrum, photovoltaic light collection is likely to play a major part in generating power for IoT uses for the foreseeable future, making light important to all parts of the M2M lifecycle.

Together, Deco Lighting and Daintree Networks have developed a cost-effective solution for commercial wireless LED lighting. The Deco Watt Controls Zigbee LED Driver combines a Zigbee-enabled wireless LED module and driver into one device. It was designed that way to simplify lighting controls and reduce the cost of fixtures by combining the two separate fixture components. The new driver simplifies commercial lighting systems by offering wireless control over fixture functionality and real time data monitoring and transfer.

Covering all the bases across home, industrial and commercial light collecting and energy generation needs, ElectricFilm on April 8 announced its new line of light harvesting technology solutions ideally suited for low-level generation of power. The company says the system is not negatively impacted by shading, like other photovoltaic technologies. It is optimized to power a variety of wireless M2M applications, so now, it’s possible to collect light to power your wireless-enabled smart lights that will report to your management system how efficiently your light is generating and using electricity.

It’s a bit like MC Escher is in charge of the IoT, now isn’t it?
