IoT Goes to the Dogs with Connected Collar

By Ken Briodagh April 28, 2015

In an April 27 announcement, connected canine product company DogTelligent has brought dogs into the IoT with its new Connected Collar, which is available on Indiegogo for $50 for a limited time.

The Connected Collar is designed to sync with the DogTelligent app on owners’ smartphones and computers, and allows them to track the locations of their pets. It also has a built-in virtual fence that will alert owners when their dogs wander beyond the boundary. The collar can relay important health information to a veterinarian.

“Since Riley (his dog) is such an important part of my daily routine, it was natural for me to look at what I found frustrating about being a dog owner,” said Patrick Perrine, CEO, DogTelligent. “One by one, I came up with solutions to the numerous problems fellow dog owners face and in the process, realized that by monitoring a dog's behavior, I would be better able to keep him safe and provide the right amount of exercise and sleep time. In other words, Riley would be a happier, healthier dog.”

The collar is still in development, and a patent is pending. It will be fitted with speakers, LEDs, an ultrasonic training whistle and anti-barking technology and it’s waterproof and shockproof. It works on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular networks. DogTelligent is making the collar available for preorder on crowdfunding site Indiegogo. Manufacturing will begin in June, and the collars are expected to deliver in August for campaign backers.

Seeking to create innovative products to enhance quality of life not only for people, but for their companions as well, Perrine said that his inspiration for the Connected Collar is due to his lifelong relationship with man's best friend: dogs. The DogTelligent team combines dog products with technology that makes a difference for dogs and their owners, solving everyday pet owning frustrations.
