A Big Leap for Semtech: Dr. Hong Q. Hou Appointed as New President and CEO

By

Let’s talk about Semtech Corporation and the importance of its latest announcement.

Technology for a Better World” is the M.O. at stake, and Semtech backs it with high-performance semiconductors, cloud connectivity services, and additional IoT systems built with connected purpose. Wireless RF/LoRa, sensitive circuit protection, a comprehensive portfolio of optical, analog and mixed-signal semiconductor solutions and a ton more – as a multinational innovator in tech, Semtech gets it done.

When last we covered Semtech on IoT Evolution, we recapped a few pertinent news stories; its sustainable monitoring technologies in place at Ghirardelli Square, the launch of its XCVR Development Board and Reference Design for IoT, its Airlink XR60 5G router solution for rugged IoT/IIoT applications, and even more to dive into here.

So, Semtech’s announcement:

Semtech has appointed Dr. Hong Q. Hou as President and Chief Executive Officer. This officially went into effect this past Thursday.

Dr. Hou – already a current member of the Semtech Board of Directors, following in the footsteps of previous Semtech President and CEO Paul H. Pickle – is big news. Recognized as a global enterprise leader with a strong track record in technical and business transformation (even in ultra-competitive markets), Dr. Hou holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, has completed Executive Management courses at Stanford Business School, and has held executive positions at Brooks Automation, Fabrinet, AXT, EMCORE and even Intel.

Ye Jane Li, Chair of the Semtech Board’s Nominating and Governance Committee, had this to say about Dr. Hou:

“We are pleased to have made measurable progress stabilizing the business by reducing operating expenses and establishing a strong financial foundation, positioning Semtech to capture future growth opportunities, and we will continue to maintain that rigor going forward. Hong is an exceptional leader, and the Board is excited to have him execute our strategy and take Semtech to its next phase of innovation and growth. Hong brings deep technical, operational and strategic leadership in the hyperscale and semiconductor industries, and is already intimately familiar with Semtech’s business.”

                   Dr. Hong Q. Hou

Dr. Hou himself, of course, provided a statement as well:

“I joined Semtech not only because of my experience with and passion for the industry, but because of this company’s unique opportunity to leverage its strong team and formidable portfolio of highly innovative technologies and products in supporting AI and IoT revolutions currently underway. I am acutely focused on maintaining our financial discipline while we position Semtech to capitalize on the compelling technological trends ahead. I am confident in our goals to generate strong and sustained value for our stockholders long into the future.”
