It’s been a hot minute, as folks say, since we talked about global IoT solutions provider Quectel.

I’d say a quick refresher is in order:

With a portfolio chock-full of cellular, GNSS (more on that as this story unfolds) and Wi-Fi modules, IoT project-specific antennas and other powering-digital-innovation types of services, Quectel’s M.O. is simple – “Build a smarter world.”

(Okay, maybe “simple” isn’t the most apt word; easier said than done. It’s noble, at the very least.)

Since its inception in 2010, Quectel has helped build what it defines as “the foundational layers” for a smarter, more secure world. We’ve covered several Quectel-centric developments, especially last year; it began in the springtime with the company’s IoT connectivity plan (i.e. its pre-paid EU28 IoT packages) for European customers, providing flat-rate roaming IoT SIMs for 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE Cat-M, and NB-IoT at a highly competitive one-time charge. Additionally, Quectel debuted a.) low-power modules that improve both indoor and outdoor IoT applications, and b.) a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module specifically for Industrial IoT (IIoT) use cases (i.e. large memory, multiple interface support, support for multi-channel SSL connections). Suffice it to say, Quectel’s been busy in the IoT space.

And as of this week, they’ve only gotten busier.

Just yesterday, Quectel excitedly announced the LG290P, its first quad-band, full-frequency, high-precision global navigation satellite system (GNSS) module.

The LG290P:

  • Supports simultaneous reception of GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS, QZSS and NavIC constellations, SBAS systems (WASS, EGNOS, MSAS, and GAGAN), and advanced satellite-based signals like L-band, PPP-B2b, QZSS L6, and Galileo HAS E6 for enhanced performance.
  • Features built-in, professional-grade signal detection and elimination algorithms, which effectively mitigate multiple narrow-band (NB) interference; this improves signal reception performance, particularly in complex electromagnetic environments.
  • Also supports multi-mode, multi-frequency real-time kinematic (RTK) algorithm solving, which improves the accuracy of GPS position measurements in even some of the most complex environments. (Find helpful RTK-related info here; it’s a lot to unpack.)
  • Excels security-wise via the incorporation of on-chip storage ECC verification and a “Secure Boot” safety mode to protect user firmware.

That’s a lot of technical info; I’ll let Quectel leadership round this out in his own words.

And as the image above this article shows, the LG290P aids automatic navigation systems for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) in software-defined vehicles (SDVs), as well as in delivery bots, large-scale harvesting machines in agribusiness, and even in devices like autonomous lawnmowers.

Pretty cool, if you ask us.
