Satellite Connectivity Meets an IoT Platform-as-a-Service: The Latest Details on Partners Skylo Technologies and Particle

By

Question: Why have Skylo Technologies and Particle partnered up?

Answer: To modernize satellite connectivity and IoT product deployment without losing one’s head over access to reliable cellular coverage.

Skylo Technologies, as we know (read our most recent Skylo-related coverage here), is a global non-terrestrial network (NTN) provider, offering 3GPP Rel-17 satellite connectivity. Its team – founded by engineers and scientists from MIT and Stanford in the U.S., as well as pros from Finland and India – partners with existing geostationary satellite vendors and network communications providers. Ultimately, Skylo enables customers smartphones and myriad other IoT cellular devices to connect directly over existing satellites (i.e. satellite IoT; satIoT, for short). This way, they can simplify affordable, continuous coverage for organizations, government entities, etc.

Then, there’s Particle. By providing its full stack IoT Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Particle helps businesses connect, manage and deploy their software applications to connected devices; “from edge to cloud and back again,” as the company has said. By helping well-known brands launch what are often industry-changing products that are securely connected and ready to scale.

So, back to this partnering-up between them. Skylo and Particle announced that they’re working together to streamline all of the above. By integrating Skylo’s satIoT connectivity with the IoT PaaS capabilities from Particle, developers are provided with a comprehensive solution that eliminates worrying over potentially lacking critical cellular coverage. Notably, this integration also includes access to Particle’s device management services, data intelligence tools, and secure cloud infrastructure, all of which are optimized for use with Skylo’s NTN connectivity technologies.

According to the official announcement, applications involving this Skylo NTN + Particle IoT PaaS “range from agriculture and maritime logistics to environmental monitoring, emergency services” and much more.

"Skylo's mission has always been to make satellite connectivity available to all,” explained Parthsarathi Trivedi, CEO and co-founder of Skylo. “By partnering with Particle, we are empowering developers to create a completely new generation of IoT solutions that were previously unimaginable. This breakthrough in IoT development provides a seamless, reliable link between edge devices and the cloud, regardless of location."
