Iotellect is a Low Code IoT full stack platform that's helping developers, engineers, and enterprises build and manage IoT solutions much faster and with less headache. Its main aim is to introduce tools that can genuinely simplify the IoT development process.
Since 2024, Igor Lenskii has been working as a Senior Product Marketing Specialist at Iotellect. With over eight years in product management, he has focused on creating user-focused solutions and driving growth in sectors like Edtech, HRtech, and E-commerce for both B2B and B2C markets. Lenskii’s experience spans the full product lifecycle, including go-to-market strategies, MVP development, and new product launches, and he’s led cross-functional teams and managed initiatives that significantly increased market penetration and user satisfaction. He holds bachelor’s degrees in marketing and economics.
I recently to the opportunity to interview Lenskii about lo code/no code development and hot it impacts IoT. Here’s what he had to say.
Carl Ford: Iotellect is a low code development platform with a graphical interface, which means that, for most of the development, the user points and clicks. What percentage of the application is completed using Iotellect's low code interface?
Igor Lenskii: Even incredibly challenging highly loaded IoT apps, both classic and industrial grade, are developed with zero lines of “classic” code. I'd say only five percent of apps require a few scripts to be written, mostly for implementing complicated math/algorithms.
CF: You list over 170 applications that are in the system. Are these applications royalty-free as part of the Iotellect's service and do additional fees apply when deploying the applications?
Igor Lenskii, Iotellect
IL: Only some of the listed solutions (e.g., SCADA, MES, IT Infrastructure Management, Network Monitoring) are off-the-shelf apps. Other solutions assume low code development based on standard components that we provide. In both cases, there are no additional fees –the subscription includes everything necessary.
CF: Over 170 applications is a lot. Do your customers contribute to the applications, or does Iotellect have to build the graphical plug and play look for each of these?
IL: For most of the IoT solution types, we only provide necessary modules, components, and templates. Each end-user app is unique and designed to monetize our partners’ know-hows in the IoT business. The idea of the platform is a very significant simplification of the development process, shortening time to market and lowering R&D costs.
CF: Your repository , besides having all the applications, organizes the applications into over 30 categories. Are some categories more popular than others? Is that because of demand for the category or the difficulty in development?
IL: Traditionally, we have more expertise in industrial IoT (SCADA, BMS, and similar solutions), which is, indeed, more demanding in terms of reliability and performance. However, Iotellect's cloud offering is more focused on “classic” IoT and, in recent years, we built much more expertise in MQTT, LPWA network integration, and other classic IoT tasks.
CF: Iotellect has a patented unified data model you call object normalization. Can customers build their own repositories for their unique issues, such as their own APIs, or does Iotellect have to build the code?
IL: Yes, any solution or product a partner has built upon Iotellect is, by design, a set of exclusive Intellectual Property Rights that belongs to that company.
CF: You support various deployment types, from standalone devices to edge to hybrid networks and to cloud. When it comes to deployment types, do customers have a preferred type, and is it possible to update the code to move from development type to another?
IL: SMB customers mostly follow the cloud or hybrid path, while enterprise customers tend to deploy solutions on-premises to keep valuable data within their network perimeter. Yet, it's amazingly easy to shift both data and product features between edge, cloud, and on-premises servers.
CF: Your solutions are “enterprise grade.” Is that because of the horizontal cluster you have developed? Please explain what you mean by enterprise grade?
IL: We have tremendous experience dealing with large corporations that enforce very high security, reliability, and scalability requirements. That's why we consider our technology to be enterprise-ready.
CF: Are you looking for integrators to become a channel for the business and, if so, how are they compensated?
IL: Yes, we are looking for channel partners. Partnership contracts are non-commercial – in the sense that no one pays anything until a solution is delivered to the end customer.
CF: Your website talks about the benefits to the enterprise using the platform to keep a "unified digital enterprise platform." Are you suggesting they migrate existing apps into Iotellect’s structure?
IL: Yes, we can help with migration. It's a case-by-case process that highly depends on the architecture and platform of the original app.
CF: I want to thank Igor for his time and answers and recommend people looking at low code / no code solutions to ask for a meeting with Iotellect.
