Aqara's Smart Lock U100, an Intuitive Deadbolt Lock for Smart Home Setups

By Alex Passett June 20, 2023

A lot goes into securing the houses, condos, apartments and other places in which we live our lives; fire alarms, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, protection for doors and windows, property motion detection, environmental sensors, systems for remote or unmonitored security, and so the list goes on.

Another key to a smarter, safer home – and certainly a more obvious selection – would be a smart lock.

In that vein, provider of smart home products Aqara announced a new addition to its smart lock portfolio that may entice those already in the market for a smart lock, as well as those who might be interested but are still on the lookout for a more-secure-than-your-average-smart-lock-system type of investment:

The Smart Lock U100.

The U100 is Aqara’s first deadbolt lock that provides homeowners with a high-tech entry solution – compatible with deadbolt locks with a 2 3/8-inch or 2 3/4-inch  backset – that’s equipped with fingerprint, password, and even Apple Smart Home capabilities.

Here are the main skimming points for the long-story-shorters out there. The U100:

  • Can be unlocked by tapping it with an iPhone or Apple Watch (if desired), even when the Apple device in question is out of juice.
  • Features an embedded, high-precision fingerprint reader that can store up to 50 unique fingerprints, as well as a keypad that allows for one-time, periodic, and permanent password usage.
  • Can have its active lock status checked via the Aqara Home app, and the built-in gyroscope enables the U100 to be locked automatically after the door is closed.
  • Complies with top safety standards and can be used outdoors, even in extreme temperature conditions
  • Supports mechanical keys and USB-C emergency charging, if necessary.
  • Is also conveniently compatible with Matter, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and IFTTT, allowing it to be integrated with ease in existing smart home setups.

With a recognition rate of 98.6% and recognition of time of less than 0.5 seconds, the Aqara Smart Lock U100 is another box checked when it comes to the connected home experience.
