It’s time to pack away your white pants, Hamptonites. Labor Day weekend is here, the informal summer is over and it’s time to get serious once again This is the IoT Evolution World Week in Review, and we’re not giving up the ghost of summer just yet.
In our lead story this week, I was a bit silly, calling for you all to get your hero on. Heroes aren’t always selfless, and they aren’t always right, but they are always trying to do the right thing. The IoT industry needs to start doing things right, and that means it’s high time to get secure. It seems like we’re always fighting the same old villains, with the same old tactics. Secure the hardware. Encrypt the data. Protect the edge. Anonymize for privacy. Trust the cloud.
In a bit of sponsored content (yes we do that, but always transparently), I helped our friends at GENIUS NY announce that it has $2 million in startup funding available for entrepreneurs looking to get a leg up on the competition. To find out if you qualify to compete, you can register for free at bit.ly/geniusapply.
And now, the news:
In a recent announcement, Socionext and SOINN have said that they will team up on a trial for integrating SoC-based data sensing technology and AI to develop solutions and new businesses. The first step of the trial is to have the “Artificial Brain SOINN” learn data collected by Socionext’s integrated medical IoT solution, viewphii, and then verify the result with the goal of providing better monitoring of health conditions and predictions of future risks.
The Thermos Brand has introduced its Connected Hydration Bottle with Smart Lid in Canada (it’s been in the U.S. for a while, now), which is designed to help thirsty folks monitor water intake using a Thermos Smart Lid app. It also connects to Fitbit so users can track water intake and meet hydration goals during activity.
SAP has announced its latest data offering, the SAP BW/4HANA, a next-generation data warehouse application designed for running a real-time digital enterprise in traditional on-premise deployment, Amazon Web Services (AWS) or SAP HANA.
This week on the IoT Time Podcast, I sat down to have an argument with Carl Ford, CEO, Crossfire Media about Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and whether they are part of the IoT. Also, I invited listeners to send Second Life smut to Carl himself.
