Black Friday Brings IoT Joy for Lowe's and Keen Home

By Ken Briodagh December 01, 2015

On Black Friday, folks out in the chaos who wanted to enhance their Smart Homes found themselves flocking to Lowe’s home improvement stores to take advantage of savings, not just that day, but for the life of their homes, thanks to lower energy bills with Keen Home’s Smart Vents.

The Keen Smart Vents won Best Tech of CES 2015 Innovation and earned an investment from Robert Herjavek on Shark Tank Season 6 in one of the biggest valuations ever on that show. These vents enable room-by-room temperature control throughout a home thanks to its ability to intelligently redirect central HVAC airflow to parts of the house where it’s needed for increased comfort and energy efficiency. And, as a bonus, there are plenty of customizable faceplates, so it’s pretty, too.

“The Smart Vent is a big step towards the proactively aware home that can take care of its occupants,” said Nayeem Hussain, co-founder, Keen Home. “Millions of homeowners across the U.S. and Canada now have the opportunity to install a Smart Vent System to get rid of pesky hot or cold spots once and for all. We're sure they will enjoy seeing a difference in their energy bill, too.”

The Smart Vent is compatible with the next generation Iris by Lowe's Smart Hub and the SmartThings Hub, and the iOS app is available now. Android will drop in mid-December, the company said. To make it work properly, it does require a Keen Home Smart Bridge, now available.

“Iris by Lowe's is committed to offering innovative solutions that simplify the smart home experience, enabling our customers to love where they live,” said Mick Koster, VP and GM, Iris Home Systems. “With the addition of Keen Home Smart Vents, we are able to deliver even more product variety to customers and offer yet another high quality device that works with Iris.”

The Keen Home Smart Vent is available on IrisbyLowes.com and in select Lowe's stores, where it is featured in Iris smart home product displays. Keen Home was one of a handful startups to participate in the launch of Amazon's Launchpad, a program the e-commerce company launched earlier this year to help startups showcase their products. The Keen Home's Smart Vent and Smart Bridge will be available for purchase on Amazon.com and on Keen Home's own website, and will soon be on Build.com and on BestBuy.ca.
